GRAVITY SCOOTERS ENVIRONMENTAL PHILOSOPHY

Respect for nature, love for animals and doing everything possible to minimize the environmental impact of our activities is the basis of our philosophy.

We are always looking for ways to use environmentally friendly materials, without sacrificing quality, and we have realized that the more natural materials we use, the better our products are in every way.

WOOD AS A STRUCTURAL PART OF THE FRAME.

The first thing we did was use wood as a structural part of the frame and as a platform for the rider. With this we obtained a much more resistant, flexible and light frame that allowed us to make big jumps and create the first downhill scooters on the market. From the very beginning we decided that the wood had to be environmentally sustainable and durable; that's why we decided to make our boards and frame reinforcements with wood, instead of for example plastic.

In addition, this greatly improved the aesthetics of our mountain scooters.

COMBATING OBSOLESCENCE

Combating obsolescence has been a constant in our scooters and time is proving us right. Our chrome-molybdenum steel frames together with the woods are the key to being able to do descents and big jumps with nothing between your legs, but they have also given our frames extraordinary durability. Sometimes we come across scooters sold in the mid 90's, that have been resold several times and repainted, that look almost new and above all continue to function perfectly. Building things that last is one of the greenest ways to build.

REDUCTION OF PLASTIC IN OUR PACKAGING.

We do not use plastic in our packaging unless it is absolutely necessary and we always use 100% recycled plastic. The cardboard we use is 100% recycled and 100% recyclable.

We have designed some new cardboard packaging to be able to dispense with the little plastic that we still used as the flanges that held the wheels.

BAMBOO AND HEMP. WITH THE MUSHING MATERIAL WE FELT GUTTED ABOUT.

For years we have been thinking about how to remove so much plastic from the sector. An outdoor sport, which is practiced in nature, with animals, should be as respectful as possible with the environment, but the reality is that all mushing material is made of plastic. In 2022 Gravity Scooters, after a year of testing, finally presents an ecological alternative in its line of mushing material "Mushing Evolution": We have replaced plastics with biodegradable materials. The new mushing products are made of bamboo and hemp.

MUSHING ANTENNA ECO

We have replaced the entire plastic antenna with FSC* certified BAMBOO. The cord that holds the rope is made of hemp.

The mushing antenna is an essential element for practicing mushing on a scooter and for bikejoring.

The mushing antenna prevents the pulling line from becoming entangled in the front wheel or the brake disc when the dog stops pulling.

FSC®-certification

FSC® is globally recognized as the best and most stringent responsible forestry certification system in the wood industry. It was created to prevent the continuous deforestation of forests.

Bamboo grows faster than any other plant in the world, having the properties of the hardest wood. These qualities make bamboo the real alternative to tropical wood.

Sostenibilidad

Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants and renewable resource on earth. It absorbs CO2 in large quantities. With technical characteristics similar to tropical wood, it is the real and unique alternative to these rare types of wood.

Sustainable bamboo forestry

One bamboo plant consists of several poles and new shoots will grow from the mother plant every year. Generally 20-25% of the poles in a sustainable bamboo forest or plantation can be harvested each year. This happens without decreasing the number of poles per hectare! The plant does not die after harvesting (as with trees), so no deforestation. On the contrary, by harvesting the mature plants, the yield and quality of the plantation actually increases.

Carbon storage in bamboo

Through photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) and convert it into glucose (building block for biomass) and oxygen. The CO2 is stored in the material for the lifetime of the product, and even longer if the product is upcycled / recycled into new, durable products. Due to the fast growth – and related high yields – Moso bamboo locks far more CO2 in the durable products pool compared to wood species.

MUSHING LINES ECO

The new mushing lines ECO are made of hemp. Hemp is a 100% natural, compostable product and also a crop that is not very aggressive towards the environment, especially when compared to cotton.

We continue manufacturing polypropylene lines.
